The position of an object at time t is given by s(t) = -9 - 3t. Find the instantaneous velocity at t = 8 by finding the derivative.

yes well done. you just applied the power rule for taking the derivative :)
Because it worked out to be constant v(t) = -3.. it didn't really matter they asked for t=8 s.
