does metabolism increase during colder season, if so, why is it that people tend to look like they have gained weight instead?

I'm guessing that it does increase, since your body is using more energy to keep the body warm, it expends more energy to keep you warm, higher metabolic rate, which accounts for your body to need more food, I guess, to keep your metabolism active. So I guess it is safe to say, yeah you do gain more weight in the winter, due to your body needing more sources of energy cuz it's working harder than it would during the summer.
