Help with a multiple choice question. Which graph best represents the solution to the following system? -3x+y <1 -x+y ≤ 1

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if you were to pick one, which one makes the most sense to you?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

a simple point to test on this might be (0,0) if that is a solution to the system, then it has to be in a shaded region; if not, then we can exclude it

OpenStudy (otonogold):

Im confused on the shading sections.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the shades just refer to the true solutions. If a point is a solution, it will be within the shaded part

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i notice that 0,0 is simple to test so that we can determine if that point is in the shade or not

OpenStudy (otonogold):

oh ok.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

-3x+y <1 0 0 --------- 0<1 is true -x+y ≤ 1 0 0 --------- 0 ≤ 1 is true so the point 0,0 HAS to be in the shaded part

OpenStudy (otonogold):

B is the only one that shows that 0,0 is shaded.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

then B has to be the correct choice :)

OpenStudy (otonogold):

Thank you :)
