MEDAL WILL BE REWARDED TO BEST ANSWER What is the chemical formula after you mix water and baking POWDER (not baking soda) together? Is the splint test negative or positive?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

well, the splint test reacts in the presence of oxygen, so what do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do I know if it is negative or positive?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

i have never used splint test before, so I am not too familiar with it, but I am guessing that if you get a fire of some sort or small explosion, it means combustion, in which case there is oxygen present. Combustion is defined as: \(\sf \color{red}{C_nH_m +O_2 \rightarrow CO_2 + H_2O}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What would the chemical formula of the water and baking soda be after they are mixed together?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

\(\sf \color{}{H_2O + NaHCO_3}\)

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Water dissociates the sodium bicarbonate, which is baking soda.

How do I know what \[H _{2} O\] and \[NaHCO _{3}\] equals?
