Find the least common denominator. Write the answer in factored form. 2/x,3/y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ 2 }{ x },\frac{ 3 }{ y }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do we mean by least common denominator? is it the denominator that is comman in both fractions?? by your notation i think is it x = y ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I got x = y as well. BUT ... should I multiply both sides by x and y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I guess what you actually trying to say is "what isthe number that is the LCM of 2 and 3 and is the denominator of these two fractions". so x = y = 6. LCM of 2,3 =6. In other words find the denominator that wil still give me an integer number in the denominator if i convert the numerator of both fractions to 1. Is it so??
