one week in the Midwest, 3.4 inches of snow fell on Monday, 0.6 inch on Tuesday, 2.2 inches on Wednesday, and 4.1 inches on Thursday. What amount of snow on Friday would give a five day average of at least 3 inches?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the average is 3 what would be the total snowfall that fell on the 5 days?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2.5 inches average??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i added 3.4 0.6 2.2 and 4.1 and i divide it by 4 to get 2.5 inches

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no - i meant the total snow tha fell during monday - friday

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh it is 10.3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea 10.3 falls during monday-thursday but we been to find what falls on the friday so total / 5 = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5 = 3??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if average is 3 then 5 * 3 is the total over 5 days

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it be 15 inches?!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no (total / 5) = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right 15 inches in 5 days

OpenStudy (anonymous):

got it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i got it now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer would be 5 = 3 or 15 inches??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no the answer is 15 - 10.3 because 10.3 ins actually fell but we need to make it up to 15 to get acerage of 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i see

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it be 4.7 inch?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

15 -10.3 = 4.7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks!
