"this whole earth which we inhabit is but a point in space" why is this a metaphor?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is a metaphor because it is comparing the earth to a small point.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Amscasey is correct, but I'd like to add on, The fact that space is virtually infinite, means that there is no point in space, there's no end thus making " A point in space" a metaphor.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Actually there is ALWAYS point in space. endless or not. it all depends on your frame of reference

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it's a opinion based answer more then proven facts so :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Physics has proven that there is always a frame of reference.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do know that, but I believe the statement is using a point as in a mental state in the universe, not physical.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perhaps however i tend to take things more litterally, therefore i assumed it meant a physical point.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then that is indeed, your opinion, not a fact ;)
