"this whole earth which we inhabit is but a point in space" why is this a metaphor?
this is a metaphor because it is comparing the earth to a small point.
Amscasey is correct, but I'd like to add on, The fact that space is virtually infinite, means that there is no point in space, there's no end thus making " A point in space" a metaphor.
Actually there is ALWAYS point in space. endless or not. it all depends on your frame of reference
I think it's a opinion based answer more then proven facts so :P
Physics has proven that there is always a frame of reference.
I do know that, but I believe the statement is using a point as in a mental state in the universe, not physical.
perhaps however i tend to take things more litterally, therefore i assumed it meant a physical point.
Then that is indeed, your opinion, not a fact ;)
