-8x+11y=83 What are the letters?. Please explain, medals will be awarded

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the question trying to ask exactly? Right now you just have a linear equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The letters are variables...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What numbers represent x and y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x and y are called variables, if that's what you were asking...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Or are you asking their values?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What you have is the equation of a line.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just want the numbers. aka values.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But that's just it -- with the information you've given us, there are an infinite number of x&y pairs that satisfy the equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you have any more information to go on?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By any chance, do the numbers have to be integers??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They are variables

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because if you're specifically asked to find integral values of x and y that satisfy the equation then x=2, y=9 would work...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats what i was asking !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bump on the x=2 and y=9
