State the degree of the polynomial: 3x + 4x3-2 + 9x2

OpenStudy (ranga):

The degree of a polynomial is the highest exponent.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3x + 10 + 18 3x + 28 The degree of the polynomial is 1 since there is "no" exponent.. the only one present is a degree to the first power... hence the 1.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry it should read 3x+4x^3-2+9x^2... So would it be 3?

OpenStudy (ranga):

3x + 4x3-2 + 9x2 should be rewritten such that the highest degree is first and the lowest degree is last: 4x^3 + 9x^2 + 3x - 2 The highest exponent is: 3 and so the degree is 3.
