The leg opposite the 45-degree angle (in a 45-45-90) triangle is 1/2 hypotenuse multiplied by sqrt(2).

10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@thomas_2016 how did you get that answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just dont want to give the answer; student must learn how to do this problem on his/her own.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im not sure. I sorry.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Easyaspi314 i understand. and thats why i asked Thomas how he got that answer, so i can know how to do it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

One way: each of the 2 legs are 5 sqrt(2). Becuase it is an isosceles triangle...so use Pythagorean Theorem...(5 sqrt(2))^2 + (5 sqrt(2))^2 = hyp^2 50 + 50 = hyp^2 100= hyp^2 hypotenuse = 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is the way I did it.
