This one probably sucks, but I tried, sorry!
Something along the lines of

The contrast between confinement and freedom is extreme in “The Cask of Amontillado.” A character must die for the other character to live . Most of the story takes place in a huge and incredibly foul smelling catacomb, or underground graveyard; dead bodies are all over. Freedom becomes less and less of a possibility as the characters move into smaller and smaller crypts, each one more disgusting than the last. Such confinement makes all the readers and  characters appreciate the deliciousness of fresh air.
