Simplify. 8x^2+12x+4/24x^2-40x-16 I've been stuck on this one for an hour. Please help.

For an hour?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How did you try to simplify it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I took out the common factor of 4 from the numerator and the common factor of 8 from th demoninator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Great...so for the numerator you get 4(2x^2 + 3x+1)...which is 4(2x+1)(x+1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The denominator is 8(3x^2 - 5x - 2) = 8(3x + 1)(x - 2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that all? Because that's not the answer in the back of my book...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait, I can simplify the 4/8 to 1/2 which matches. Alright. I was getting stuck on that. lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, you can cancel the 4's and 8's...so you'll have a 2 on the bottom.
