HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO DO THIS QUESTION! HELP!! What is the value of b in the quadratic regression equation for these points: (-3, 1.2), (1, 0.4), (5, 1.6), (11, 2.6)? A. -0.976 B. -0.97 C. -0.01 D. 0.009

OpenStudy (phi):

are you allowed to use a calculator? This looks like you should use quad regression function on a calculator that does statistics.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea, but i dont have one:/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so how do i figure out my answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay I put in the plots but didnt get an answer yet.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got this; y = 0.016x^2 - 0.0098x + 0.8601

OpenStudy (phi):

I am guessing the b is the coefficient on the x term

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what does that mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would that make my answer B?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (phi):

I am thinking about it. -0.0098 does not match any of your choices.

OpenStudy (phi):

oh, it looks like you should round to the nearest hundredth

OpenStudy (phi):

round -0.0098

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got B as my answer, is that correct?

OpenStudy (phi):

to round -0.0098 to the nearest 100th (2nd place after the decimal) look at the 9 in the 3rd place. if 5 or bigger (and it is) round up: the 0 becomes 1 you get -0.01

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh sorry I thought u said round to the nearest hundreth lol
