HELP PLEASE!! A kayak northward paddles 26 m (N) across a swift river that carries the kayak 36 m (E). Use scale diagram to determine the resultant displacement.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

All you have to do is plot 26m North and 36m East in Cartesian Coordinates, and then find their resultant displacement by using the Pythagorean Theorem. \[z^2=x^2+y^2\] Simplified for this case, \[z=\sqrt(x^2+y^2)\]You already have your x and y, plug them in and find your resultant displacement.
