Which statement best decribes enzymes? a. Temperature changes do not affect enzymes b. Every enzyme controls many different catalysts c. Enzymes are produced from the building blocks of carbohydrates d. The rate of activity of an enzyme might change as pH changes

OpenStudy (haileyd):

i am guessing b, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enzyme

OpenStudy (aaronq):

d. The rate of activity of an enzyme might change as pH change

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you tell me why it is d ??? @aaronq

OpenStudy (aaronq):

because the others are incorrect. a. Temperature changes do not affect enzymes - temperature changes denature enzymes (not all enzymes though) b. Every enzyme controls many different catalysts - the enzyme itself is the catalyst c. Enzymes are produced from the building blocks of carbohydrates - from amino acids d) changes in pH changes the conformation of enzymes by protonating (or deprotonating) sites. if enough of these changes happen the enzyme stops working.
