Dr. Leonard McCredie stated, "Literature's purpose within our society is an important on." (32). It was correct, you just needed to capitalize Dr. and Leonard. Also, was that the end of the quote? or was there more to it?

You don't need the double quotation marks. Also, names and prefix needs to be capitalized.
