Which equation defines the graph of y = x² after it is shifted vertically 3 units down and horizontally 5 units left?

y = (x – 5)² – 3
y = (x + 5)² – 3

sure, my teacher said when something is moved (left or right) on a graph then symbol would be opposite such as moved 5 units left it would be +5.
