How do you use diodes to increase the power to the 10 Ohm resistor in this circuit?

With I1 approximately 1.2Amps and I2 0.5Amps (without the diode and separate loop calculation) some power from the 28.45V source will be dissapated across the 7.1 ohm resistor because the voltage at the junction of 3 resistors will be greater than 8.58 volts. Adding the diode allows a majority of the current (less reverse leakage current) from the 28.45 volt supply to flow through the 10 ohm resistor.
