Stomata. The stomata are opened and closed by "guard" cells.
Oxygen and carbon dioxide are easily moved in and out of the leaves through stomata. Stomata, in turn are opened and closed by "guard" cells. When open, both gasses can flow into or out of the stomata and the leaves to allow photosynthesis to occur.
