In the set of real numbers, the first number less than -3 is -4. True or False

OpenStudy (anonymous):

noooo! it is true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am hundred % sure it is true because a number less than -3 is more negative like -4

OpenStudy (kainui):

False, in the real numbers there are fractions and square roots. So really there is no next number lower than -3. For example, -3 and 1/2 is less than -3 but greater than -4. But we could go half way between any point you pick that's less than -3.

hmmmm... @Kainui i guess so ... hmmmm makes me think about life more

OpenStudy (kainui):

Yeah, it's kind of like, is there an infinite number of points between any two points? I wonder this myself. Surely I move forward in time and through distances, so does that mean I go through an infinite number of increments of time or distance?
