so if i was to do 4+2[8+(3-1)^2] i would do 4+2+12 then the answer would be 18???

yes i did the parenthesis first then added

Well if you did the parenthesis first, then the equation should look as so: 4+2[8+(2)^2]

true. Then solve the rest and that is your answer. (and it's not 18)

so i go 4+2*12 wich would be 28
