The vertex of the parabola y = x^2 + 8x + 10 lies in Quadrant (1) I (2)II (3) III (4) IV

OpenStudy (paounn):

You know that the x of your vertex is -b/2a. By replacing the value you need you get if your point lies in I/IV or II/III quadrant. Once you do this you replace your x in the parabola equation and see if your point lies above or below the x-axis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-b/2a give the x coord of the vertex, you have to plug that back into your original equation to find the y vertex value.
