Someone help me with factoring?? (4x^2 - 7x - 2)/(8x^2 +2x^2 + 4x +1)

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Mmm factoring can be a little tricky when you have a coefficient on the square term. There's a neat little trick I learned recently for solving these, maybe it will be helpful.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

So let's start with this one:\[\Large 4x^2-7x-2\]Is of the form:\[\Large ax^2+bx+c\]|dw:1383190589567:dw|So we need to fill in these parts, then on the left and right we can figure out the factors that we need. We want our factors to multiply to give us a*c, but also add to give us b.
