I dont understand how to divide (3x^5-2x^3+5x^2=12x-15) by (x^2-3)????

OpenStudy (ddcamp):

Is the equal sign supposed to be a minus or plus sign?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plus

OpenStudy (ddcamp):

OK, here's the first step of the long division: |dw:1383191391509:dw|

OpenStudy (ddcamp):

I chose 3x³ because I know that 3x³ × (x²-3) would give me the 3x⁵ term that I was trying to cancel out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What would be the remainder?

OpenStudy (ddcamp):

So that's the first step. Try doing the same thing that I did, but with the (new) x³ term.
