can someone help me with these questions: What was feudalism and how did it influence social classes in Medieval Europe? How did Charlemagne reunite Medieval Europe after the Roman Empire collapsed? Why were monks and monasteries important in Europe during the Medieval Europe? Why were the Crusades fought? What was the purpose of them? How did guilds and apprentices help peasants? Explain the similarities between chivalry and bushido
Definition: the dominant social system in medieval Europe, in which the nobility held lands from the Crown in exchange for military service, and vassals were in turn tenants of the nobles, while the peasants (villeins or serfs) were obliged to live on their lord's land and give him homage, labor, and a share of the produce, notionally in exchange for military protection. It is a form of government where a king or ruler divides up the land among Dukes or Earls. Each Duke or Earl is given a portion of land to protect for his king. Each duke has to hire enough men to protect the land and to make sure every one living in his portion of the kingdom pays his taxes. The dukes would be expected to build forts and castles to ensure the land could be protected. They would also have to provide a number of men to the kings army every year. Kings would have the largest armies so none of the dukes would think of trying to become king. This helps keep the social classes organized in the society.
Charlemagne reunited Western Europe through a 30 year military campaign and religion.
thank you
Monks in monasteries during the middle ages were among the few, like the nobility, who could read and write. Because of this, most of the knowledge was kept restricted to that small sect of people. It wasn't until Johann Gutenberg invented the first printing press in the 1450's changed the situation so that knowledge was made available to everyone, and that was the main influence that spurred on the Age of Enlightenment. Monasteries were often check points for travelers, forts in times of conflict, distribution centers in times of famine, hospitals in times of sickness, neutral grounds for conflicting parties to voice grievances and make pacts as well as being bastions of knowledge and skill.
The Byzantine army was destroyed and Muslim Seljuk Turks began flooding into Anatolian peninsula. The Byzantine Emperor sent a message to the Papacy in Rome asking for help. What he expected was a small group of mercenaries with which he could draft into the Byzantine army and use them to recapture the Anatolian peninsula. Instead the Emperor got an entire Christian army which later went on their own to take over Jerusalem in the name of the Catholic church.
In Bushido the Diamyo payed Samurais in land to fight for them. The peasants would serve the Diamyo and the Samurais and in return the Diamyo and Samurais would help protect the peasants. And in the fuedal system instead of the leader being a Diamyo it was a Lord and Samurais are knights. Hope I helped :P
