I have seen a few problems with chat spam, and I think if we introduced a voting system to limit spammers from posting in chat it would fix the problem. For example: User has been typing bad things into chat so after he gets several Thumbs Down he gets a message that says: you have received 5 thumbs down in fifteen minutes, you cannot type in chat for 30 minutes. Comments or suggestions are welcome.

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

Seems like a good idea… I mean, mods. moderate the chats anyhow and suspend spammers, as it is obviously against the Code of Conduct. Besides, this can also be an abused privilege because maybe the user is decent but people just hate on them. So idk about that. its a good suggestion, and many have contributed suggestions on how to deal with spammers. People like you are appreciated, thanks for caring about this site :)

OpenStudy (compassionate):

We already have a community suspension system, and while I'm not sure on the details, when a user gets a certain amount of reports - he automatically gets suspended.

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

So its somewhat similar…unfortunately, it also looks like your idea would involve some major moderation and 24/7 chat surveillance .. lol

Indeed, Jamie had a great point of hating on. I feel like once you get a grudge or someone is holding that grudge against you, they will just spam your answers with thumbs downs. But it is a good idea, but with all the people here, you really never know what happens. And like Compassionate said, a certain amount of reports, gets them suspended, so the report system is there for that sort of reason.

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

hmmm….perhaps a mod. should have this power only; trouble is, that would require a lot of supervision.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, adding a voting system for chat would be more trouble than it's worth then. But you could add a limit for thumbs down on the same person.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That mod would have to be on almost 24/7, but maybe a group of them? Also, they kind of already do this, suspend, and such. So by adding it for mod powers only, people like Canis wouldn't really even know it happened!

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

seems good… but what if a user is really bad, but because us the limit, they can spam all they want? lol its really hard to come up with good guidelines

OpenStudy (anonymous):

After a certain amount of thumbs down they would be suspended from chat. The amount of times you can vote down can be balanced according to a reasonable limit.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Indeed Jamie. Also, what if a member just wants to goof off, gives a thumbs down to everyone, that would be soo annoying, because no one really wants to get a 30 minute suspension from chatting. He/she would go around, and if he really didn't like someone specifically, they would look at their questions asked/answered, and go down the list giving a bunch of thumbs down. And besides, the medal is kind of already the voter, because if you praise them or thank them, you give them the medal, if you got it wrong, or they were rude, you don't give them that medal. The medal is like a treat for being good.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There aren't medals in chat, I don't think we need a voting system for questions.

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

intriguing…but we have to take the other things (like personal grudges/hidden OS drama *cough* @Princess__Peach *cough* you need to finish that book!) into account. I feel like this could be used for spammers to suspend regular good users from chat too :P Yes @Kfins99 , think of a medal as a tip to a waitress/waiter who helped you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Jamierox4ev3r bahhaahhaah XD of course Jamie XD of course XD <3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But the medal is like a vote already. Normally when I have a problem, I report them, or I contact a moderator. (Even an Ambie) They then take care of it to look at it, that way it is pretty much a fair vote type thing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright, I got the feedback I need. Case closed.

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

cool :)
