During the Persian Gulf War of 1990-1991, Iraq invaded and occupied Kuwait. An alliance of nations responded by sending its own military to force Iraq out. As the Iraqi army retreated, it set fire to Kuwaiti oil wells in order to deny this resource to Kuwait and its allies. Which of these was an environmental result of the destruction of Kuwait's oil wells? Kuwait was forced to use unsafe sources of fuel. The oil spills made the soil more fertile. The fires destroyed the nearby rainforest. The fires caused pollution to the air and soil.
