What is schedule no. in pipes?? Can anybody explain it to me in simple words?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The higher the schedule number, the thicker the wall of the pipe. The outer diameter (O.D.) of the pipe stays the same and the interior diameter (I.D.) of the pipe becomes smaller due to the thickening of the wall when going from schedule 40 pipe to schedule 80 pipe. The equation for pipe schedule number is: \[Schedule = \frac {ServicePressure} {AllowableStress} * 1000\] |dw:1383260623510:dw|
