Identify three major problems faced by farmers after the Civil War. Explain how farmers organized to address these problems.

OpenStudy (austinl):

Agricultural prices were too high so they created the Farmers' Alliance to negotiate for lower prices. The Farmers' Alliance was a huge reform in the South. Farmers everywhere with the same goal; lowering commodity prices were joining despite others' religion, political views, etc. Railroads weren't as wonderful as previously thought. A train could transport your product to another part of the U.S. in a matter of days (depending on start and end location) however, they were very expensive. The Populist Party was the remnants of the Farmers' Alliance. members of such party set out to advocate the public ownership of railroads. And lastly, slaves were no longer able to be used as free labour.
