can someone help me with equations?
sure,
Jose is comparing the prices of two carpet cleaning companies. Company A charges $0.40 per square foot of carpet area and an additional $22 per day for services. Company B charges 0.60 per square foot of carpet area and an additional $18 per day for services. Part A: Write equations to represent Company A and Company B's total charges for cleaning a certain carpet area in a day. Define the variable used in the equations can you help me with part A?
@electrokid can you help me?
let say \(C_A\) is the total charge of company A; x is number of square foot of the carpet; y is number of day for services \(C_A = 0.40*x+22*y\) you can do the same with company B I think so, hopefully it is not wrong.
@agent0smith check mine, friend. I am not sure about it, hehehe
@DemolisionWolf prof, check mine.
@Loser66 yes, that is the same equation i would use.
@Loser66 @DemolisionWolf do one of you guys mind helping me with part a and b?
I mean part b and c* sorry
ya, what is part b?
Part B: Which company would charge less for cleaning 500 square feet of carpet area? Justify your answer. @DemolisionWolf
ok, for this question we will have to use the equations we got for part a, do you have those?
yes @DemolisionWolf
ok, so what you will want to do is plug in 500 in the to variable that stands for 'square feet' in your equation, and plug in 1 for the variable that stands for days do this to both equations and tell me what you get for the answers
can i do this with a calculator? and what do i put? im sorry im rlly bad in math this is my first year of highschool
no problem, i'll do the first one and you can copy me for the second equation: CA=0.40∗x+22∗y remember x stands for 'square feet' y stands for 'days' so, CA=0.40*500+22*1 CA= $222 so company A will charge me $222 dollars to clean a 500sq ft room in 1 day
can you try company B?
yes ok i will try 1 second
ok so 0.60*500+18*1 =318?
am i right? @DemolisionWolf
ya you got it! on to part c?
yay :)! so for part B i put the equation i answered? and Part C: How much money is saved by using the services of Company A instead of Company B for cleaning 200 square feet of carpet area?
also what do i put for part A? do i put what loser66 put? @DemolisionWolf
"yay :)! so for part B i put the equation i answered? part B asks, which company charges less for cleaning 500 square feet so from the answers of $222 and $318, which company will charge less? [this is the answer for B]
and for part B, say the reason is becuase one company charges 222 dollars and the other charges 318 dollars
"also what do i put for part A? do i put what loser66 put?" you will want to put the two equations you made, Loser66 did one of the equations, and you did the other, put those in for the answer to part A
"Part C: How much money is saved by using the services of Company A instead of Company B for cleaning 200 square feet of carpet area? for part c do the exact same thing as we did for part b, but use 200 not 500 this time. then subtract the cost of company B from company A, and that will be the answer to part C
okay im going to go do that and then ill let you know the answer i get for part c
great :)
so the answer is 102? @DemolisionWolf
CB= 0.60*200-18*1 = 102? CA= 0.40*200-22*1= 58 @DemolisionWolf
you were close, don't subtract the 18*1 and don't subtract the 22*1, add them right now, then we will subtract later in the next step CB= 0.60*200+18*1 = ? CA= 0.40*200+22*1= ?
CB= 0.60*200+18*1 = 138 CA= 0.40*200+22*1= 102
am i right @DemolisionWolf
yes, now we will subtract- company A - Company B = answer so, 102-138 = -36 so that means using company A and not Company B for cleaning the carpet we will have to pay 36 dollars more. [answer]
