Find the value of b.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sin(45)=opp/hyp sin(45)=12/b 12/sin(45)=b b=16.97

@cody2010 are you sure?

One way you can do is since one of the angles is 45 degrees and the other is 90 degrees. So that means the other angle is 45 degrees as well. 45+45+90=180. That's the number of degrees in a triangle. Since it has two same angles, the triangle is actually a isosceles meaning two sides have equal length so since one side is 12 then the other side is 12. Then do the Pythagorean theorem,\[a ^{2}+b ^{2}=c ^{2}\]Since a = 12 and b = 12, Then just plug in and find c.

@hwtrain so 144 + 144 = c?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[144+144=c ^{2}\]Remember to square root c to get c by itself.
