A grain silo consists of a cylindrical main section and a hemispherical roof. If the total volume of the silo (including the part inside the roof section) is 19000 ft3 and the cylindrical part is 45 ft tall, what is the radius of the silo?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The radius (r) is also the radius of your cylinder, otherwise they wouldn't fit. The volume of a cilynder is pi*r*h, where we know h to be 45. Than add the volume of the sphere, which has the same radius which is 4/3* pi*r^3. Added together these should give 19000 as answer. Solve for r.
