OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

what do you think is your first step going to be?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

not exactly, +5, right?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

depends on what method you want to use, completing the square?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

either way, -8 is also good, CHOOSE!

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

K, write what you get.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

so what methods do you know/choose? Factoring Completing the square Quadratic formula

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Yeah, kind of my bad, b/c in this case it is factored already. So you choose factoring, (I would complete the square) in this case factoring and completing the sq, are the same. you would want to get rid of the 2 in front of the parenthesis in any case.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

no, you are forgetting about x^2 and anyway, I am confusing you, if you want to expand the parenthesis instead, then you should have gone with -8 from both sides. lets do that then.... \[2(x+2)^2-5 =8\]

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

also 13 is negative.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

and ^2 does on (x+2) not just x.
