For this problem, you need to set it up as two individual inequalities. |5x + 5| < 10 (5x+5)<10 & -(5x+5)<10 Then you solve for x in both of them!
5(1) +5 < 10 5+5 <10 10<10 so anywhere in bettween less than 1 and greater than -3
