If trapezoid T'U'V'W' represents trapezoid TUVW reflected over the y-axis, the ordered pair of W' is ___________. (Note: You must include parentheses and a comma when typing the ordered pair.)

OpenStudy (ranga):

Reflected over the y axis means, the x value will change to minus x value and the y value will remain the same. First find the ordered pair for the point W Then, change the sign of the x coordinate but keep the y coordinate the same. That will be the ordered pair for W' when W is reflected over the y axis.

so the answer is (-4,6)?

@ranga

OpenStudy (ranga):

You don't switch the x and y. x is measured horizontally and y vertically. W is -6 on the x axis and -4 on the y axis. In an ordered pair, the x coordinate is always first and then the y coordinate. W is (-6, -4) To reflect over the y axis, just change the sign of the x value and keep y as it is. W' will be (6, -4)

OpenStudy (ranga):

Reflecting over the y axis means imagine a mirror placed along the y axis and see where the reflection of W will be.

oh... that makes sense... thank you so much ! @ranga

you are welcome.
