((x^2-3x+2)/(x^2-9))/((x-2)/(x^2-9))

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

what is a fraction divided by a fraction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a fraction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am not sure how to simplify the two fractions before i flip the scond one and multiply

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

Oh flip it and you'll see, some terms will cancel out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do i cross out the x^2 - 9 or do i multiply i am very confused i don't really know the steps for thius type of question

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

yea you can just cross those out since they're both on the bottom, and you're dividing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so i once i crossed those it it turns into x^2-3x+2 divided by x-2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then what do i do

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

factor x^2-3x+2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

factored it is (x+1)(x-3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait i think thats wrong one sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x-1) (x-2)

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

Okay, so what else can you cancel?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then i cancel out the x-2

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

yea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then all thats left is x-1

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

yup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):
