Calculus, https://www.dropbox.com/s/lig6lqc0e4ea2kp/Screenshot%202013-11-03%2012.44.48.jpg Can you please verify Part (a) ? My result was -1/5ln|x+4|+1/5ln|x-1| + c

hartnn (hartnn):

it is correct! :)

hartnn (hartnn):

2nd one needs partial fractions directly. 3rd one needs polynomial division. because for partial fractions, degree of Numerator should be strictly less than that of denominator.

OpenStudy (christos):

thanks man ! Can you please verify for me the last two as well ?? B: -ln|X| + ln(x^2 - 1) + C C: x^2/2 - 3x + 1/2ln|x^2 + 1| + C

hartnn (hartnn):

B: -ln|X| + (1/2)ln(x^2 - 1) + C

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

side note: if you are just checking your answers it may be easier to use wolframalpha.com then if you have questions about the solution you can ask here

hartnn (hartnn):

lol, i am using wolf to check answers too http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=integral+%28x%5E3-3x%5E2%2B2x-3%29%2F%28x%5E2%2B1%29

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

i know im just trying to skip the middle man :)

hartnn (hartnn):

thank you!

OpenStudy (christos):

but why is wrong man ? What do you have in its place ?

OpenStudy (christos):

I am integrating x - 3 + x(/x^2 + 1)

hartnn (hartnn):

C is absolutely correct.

OpenStudy (christos):

x - 3 + x/(x^2 + 1)

OpenStudy (christos):

oh my results are correct ??

hartnn (hartnn):

i think you just missed a " (1/2) " in B C is correct, yes
