how can u describe a mathematical statement?

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

By simply showing the work and labeling where necessary.

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

Right, @JFrance ? Wouldn't that be the only practical way to describe a mathematical statement? You would have no choice but to show work. Labeling and explaining why you did something as well.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, i totally get your point.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

here's another question: how will you know if an example is a inequality or not and how can u show the inequality model of it???

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

Well, let me ask you this... do inequalities you equal signs or do they use something else? ex. 2x = 4 Is this an inequality?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

Good, they use greater than, less than, greater than or equal to, & less than or equal to symbols.

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

So that is how you would know.

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

To show the inequality model... we would need to make the number line... For ex. x > 7 |dw:1383492626476:dw|
