Can someone help me with lab questions (specifically #2, I think I get the rest of them)? The lab and the questions are attached in the comments :)
You can use the R\(_f\) value to find distance travelled relative to the solvent IF you cannot clearly see. but based on your results, it can be seen pretty clearl
I found the Rf values, but I'm not sure what they mean...?
The R\(_f\) value is a measurement of how far the compound you are studying has moved along the solid support that you are using in the chromatography, relative to how far the solvent (liquid) that the compound was dissolved in.
so the further the solvent travelled, the more soluble it is?
Yes, the more strongly a compound was taken in by the solvent is the less distance it can travel up the plate. Yes?
so in this situation, the yellow would be the most soluble?
Uh, sure. I don't see yellow though, but I can't visibly see it too well. but i fyou see it, then yes.
it's kind of hard to see but there's yellow near the top of the paper
@abb0t , but to put it simply, the further up the paper the pigment travelled, the more soluble it is? sorry i'm confused :/
Yes.
thanks!
