2 yes or nor questions!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Is the simplified form of 2 sqrt3 •sqrt12 rational? Yes No

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

Im quite sure it is yes...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let's see... 2 sqrt(3) times sqrt(12) = 2 sqrt(36) = 2(6) = 12. 12 is a rational number as it can be written as a fraction 12/1.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, it is 12.

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

so i was right right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

and the other one... Is the simplified form of 2square root of 3 + 3square root of 3 rational? Yes No

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

i say no it is not rational.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you think? and why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're right. But why is it irrational?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because 2 sqrt(3) + 3 sqrt(3) = 5 sqrt(3) which is irrational since sqrt(3) is irrational; and 5 times irratioinal # is still an irrational number.

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

sorry was dealing with my second cuzin she ran away with my computer mouse...

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

and i can't find it...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, I already helped you with the reason.

undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):

thank you...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

welcome.
