Is the simplified form of 2 sqrt3 •sqrt12 rational?
Yes
No
undeadknight26 (undeadknight26):
Im quite sure it is yes...
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Let's see...
2 sqrt(3) times sqrt(12) = 2 sqrt(36) = 2(6) = 12.
12 is a rational number as it can be written as a fraction 12/1.
OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're right. But why is it irrational?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
because 2 sqrt(3) + 3 sqrt(3) = 5 sqrt(3) which is irrational since sqrt(3) is irrational; and 5 times irratioinal # is still an irrational number.
