@Zale101 plzzz help me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

TRANSITIVE verbs are verbs that CANNOT stand by themselves. Look at this sentence: "The egg carton holds six eggs." HOLDS is the verb, in this sentence. And it's a TRANSITIVE verb, because it cannot stand by itself. We can't really just say...."The egg carton holds." What does it hold???? We have to say..."The egg carton holds six eggs." Again, TRANSITIVE verbs don't stand by themselves. They're connected to an object. ---------------- INTRANSITIVE verbs, on the other hand, CAN stand by themselves. They are not connected to any object in the sentence. "We have to leave." LEAVE is an INTRANSITIVE verb, in this sentence. It stands by itself. It's not connected to any object.
