How do I figure out which of these options is a root of this function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[f(x)=x ^{3}-4x ^{2}-11x+30\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Options are 1, 0, -3, and 6. I'm not asking for an answer I'm just asking how to do it.

OpenStudy (phi):

a root will make the expression =0 for example f(x) = x-1 x=1 is a root because we get f(1)=0 so try each of the x values in your equation and see if you get 0

OpenStudy (phi):

if you know synthetic division, you could use that and see if you get a 0 remainder. that would mean you found a root.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh okay, I'm gonna do that right now, might take me a minute

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3 gives a remainder of 0, so it is a root, right?
