2 car rental companies have different rental plans. Sand's car rental charges $50 a day and 10 cents every mile traveled. Beach car rental charges $60 dollars a day and no per mile charge. How many days would the trip need to be to make the costs equal, if the trip total was 300 miles???

I would start by writing equations for both car companies.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3 days 2 days 1 week They will never be equal forgot that i have ootins

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so sand's car company, s=50x+.1m where x is days and m is miles and b=60x or beach's company total, then set them equal that is 60x=50x+30, the 30 is easily found as the problem state miles=300 or insert 300 for m, and solve for x.

so 1 week then ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not quite, if 60x=50x+30 then 30=10x (subtracted 50x from both sides) and lastly x=3 (divide both sides by 10).
