People confuse religion with culture most of the time. Many women don't have full individual rights in some areas in middle east (Afghanistan is one example), that is right because the sanctions and norms people practice there is strict. Women were discriminated in the past harshly because the way people viewed religion that women were to be “weaker” than men. This idea had comprehended throughout the whole society in general and thus increasing the discrimination. But they forgot that at the end of the Day of Judgment, Allah will punish and reward men and women equally. People misread the Quran as women are fragile and have no power on authority. In the Quran women are viewed as teachers in life, are to be good respectful wives (so do men), but still, that does not mean their weak, this is a good example of how a woman commonly has a huge impact on people’s lives and they should not be discriminated against. If women were to be the greatest teachers and a respectful wife, then the family will become successful and if all the women were to be like that, then the whole society will successfully grow. “Be respectful, be responsible, be safe” this is for all the genders equally. If both of the genders were respectable and responsible to one another, i guarantee our society's divorce rate will decline in the US and thus making peace among others.

[3:195] Their Lord responded to them: "I never fail to reward any worker among you for any work you do, be you male or female - you are equal to one another. Thus, those who immigrate, and get evicted from their homes, and are persecuted because of Me, and fight and get killed, I will surely remit their sins and admit them into gardens with flowing streams." Such is the reward from GOD. GOD possesses the ultimate reward.

When people miss read the bible or the Quran, it's no longer a religion, this is when culture and traditions come to play.
