EDTA is ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid. EDTA quenches the divalent cations. these divalent cations are required for the action of nucleases. so indirectly it prevents the action nucleases. NaCl helps in precipitation of DNA. exactly how i cannot remember but ill let u know...
