Just throwing this out there: Remove the chat system. It is not needed at all. Replace the current chat system with @Skiller8860 idea, almost like a Facebook messenger. Move the "unseen questions" to the left where feedback is located.
I turned my ads off for this

Also, GeoGebra is a graphing software that is VERY easy to use. If Geogebra was fused into the answering for OS, it would be great for answering questions.
I love OS, but the coding errors are a huge pain. I cannot comment on a post twice unless I refresh the page, the post button stays grey. Many other people have coding errors so I know it is not just me. Mine is simple, but sometimes OS just will not run on a computer that I know is perfectly capable of running large programs and games.
Oh another suggestion: Subtopics are barely used. Make them more obvious because I never notice them unless I am searching to answer questions. When you post your question, have an area on the bottom where you can tag your post with the topic. >Algebra >Geometry >Pre-Calculus >Statistics >Calculus
Also, it is not just my browser (Google Chrome), I have my own personal browser, Internet explorer, Firefox etc that all have problems. If the website does not run properly on IE or my personal browser (which is stripped down to the bare minimum for maximum speed), then it is definitely not the browsers fault. IE 6-10 are all integrated for HTML5, CSS3, SVG, ECMAScripts5.1 etc. In case you don't believe me, here is a picture: This means it has to be an error in OS coding.
Good ideas @lukecrayonz :D. I love you talking all coding and stuff, as-for I understand about 99.9% percent of it. I'm a coder myself, I'm really good at Javascript and Java it's self. I have made my own cloud browser out of Javascript. Cloud Browser, for those who don't know, is a browser that stores information and data in a cloud server, to keep it secure. But anyhow, good job on the ideas Luke :).
I agree that the present chat is flawed. As a mod, I end up in all sorts of subjects due to reports. Every subject I open causes a chat to open, and with that comes more lag. If I "Stop studying" a bunch of topics, things go faster. The only difference is how many chats are on the bar.
@farmdawgnation @mattfeury @shadowfiend
I am getting tired of chat myself. Let me throw something out. What if you only got to use chat if you leveled up to say 30? Earn your rights to chat....?
One of the big problems that chat addresses is the deeply hidden topics. It lets people expose an unanswered question. If there were a limit, it could stop new people from asking how to get an answer. What might be nice is a limit similar to that of a tweet. Short messages only. Say 200 characters. Another good limit would be a 1 second delay on having the posting box open back up. This would make it much harder to spam chat with large or repeated messages.
Well the "Unanswered questions" is the reason for people to see that there are questions not being answered.
That chat got pretty out of hand earlier today. I mean I had reported quite a lot of abuse.
Chat gets out of hand regularly.... We do our best to hammer it back.
I think there should at least be a threshold on the chat, that will reduce spam. If they do spam too much, they get a warning. Then after a couple of warnings they get a punishment, just a suggestion. I read @Preetha 's idea and thought about it and well, this sounds like a bonus to add onto what Preetha said. I do think there should be a smartscore that needs to achieved to talk in the chatbox, that will prevent new comers from spamming the chatbox with posts. Something to add to the subscribers, the threshold on the chat will be released, however if you do spam and are reported, you will be revoked of your subscription. Let me know what you think @Preetha @e.mccormick @hartnn @Hero
As in threshold I mean a timer, 15 seconds between sending messages possibly?
I am sure you do @e.mccormick so I agree with @Preetha.
Why was this moved into closed?
They probably added the idea of adjusting chat to the work queue... especially since Preetha knows it is a source of issues.
