Thread II, November IV, 2013 Established Rules: - No Solicting answers (Tests, quizzes, or any answers on tests or coursework of institutions, or schools alike) - No sexual innuendo, mature links e.g., NSFW and +18 - No innapropriate depictions of artwork - You must be a subscriber to start a private session; a subscriber can invite a none-subscriber ____________________________________________________________________________________ Foundation: - A low budget ( @preetha ) - A whiteboard - Audio and visual - Basic tools e.g., paintbrush, shapes, and LaTex ( similiar to the LaTex math on OpenStudy.) - Undo and clear page -____________________________________________________________________________________ Q & A: There has been some controversy over whether or not only subscribers should be able to use it. Should all members be able to use it? Should none-subscribers be time locked to thirty-minutes, and subscribers get an infinite time? If so - that would take a little extra programming, whereas, just letting subscribers have Private Sessions with unlimited time would save the engineers painstaking tasks. Also, this one is specifically for @preetha , I feel you should mention this to @c0decracker . It'll be a fun first project for him, since he's a new developer here at OpenStudy. As for now, group, lets focus on revising and editing the basic frame. We need to gain a strong foundation and reach an agreement on what the basic design should be. Please - respond any re-edits or new ideas you may have, or to add on/improve current ideas.

hartnn (hartnn):

Only an online mod should be able to start a session because it needs to be monitored. (But the responsibility of keeping the session clean will lie with everyone who views it, and everyone should be able to report anything against COC, because a mod may monitor it fully or partially or just start the session and leave.) There should be limit of only 3 sessions PER DAY by a particular user, out of which one session would be absolutely free for a subscriber, and other 2 sessions will charged like non-subscribers. There should be max time limit for 1 session, like 1 hour. (should certainly not be open for infinite time.) ANYONE should be able to enter(and reply) the session(this way it'll be truly OPEN), but the admins of those session should be the user who started the session and all mods. (like a tinychat admin, who can ban any user from the session). Lets not consider video as of now for simplicity, a whiteboard and audio facility is good enough for a start. More thoughts on it coming soon.

OpenStudy (compassionate):

I like your idea about timed sessions and moderators - however, if that is the case, we'll need to elect an array of new moderators to specifically help maintain private chats.

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Also - I'd like you to respond on 'how' a moderator would get notified about the group. Threw email like usual? Through a different report system?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-I do believe there should be a time limit on non subscribers, but only limit them to 3 a day or something like @hartnn said. Also, having subscribers to be able to have maybe 2 hours or infinity, and unlimited joining/creating rooms. I like the keeping it simple, not going into too much until we create a strong enough foundation to work off of. -The moderators should get a message just like they do reports, but maybe a different color outline? @Compassionate -Anyone should be able to interact with the chat, but only subscribers should be able to use the microphone. -I do agree with @hartnn video should come later. -Another rule to add would be "No explicit language" or "Must follow CoC at all times" (And maybe give them a link to it or tell them where it is) -What do you mean "Low Budget"? I didn't quite understand that -I think there should be a way to ban a person from a certain room -Also, who would be the admin of the room? -Are we going to access it like where you attach a file, draw, or do an equation? Put "Go to Room" or? Will it be an internal or external link? Will it be a pop up? -Where will the list of people be? How many people can be in a room at a time? -If we need to appoint new moderators for this specific topic, will they only have access to this, and the current mods have access to all? If we are appointing new moderators, they need to be found, not in a rush, but take the time to observe who will be best (as always) -There needs to be the ability to leave the room (if you are done, if you have to go, etc.) -Can you attach a file to show, or will that be prohibited? (Many more questions, but I will wait)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Also, on the whiteboard, we should be able to change colors of our highlighter, pencil/pen (tool), and our pointer, that way it isn't confusing for others to know whos pointer is whos and such.

hartnn (hartnn):

how a mod should be notified? as for start if we get a notification with a request its fine. But the notifications tends to go away pretty soon and we see "No new notification.Live in the moment" , and so we need to open notifications in other tab...so maybe something(a link for approval) above or below "feedback" on left would be good later when we develop this more. lets not elect special mods for this. sessions can be started only after approval of an active online mod(if no mod online, session cannot and should not be started), who are currently mods now and anyways Preetha is electing new mods quite periodically. And there should be nothing private about these sessions, i feel ANYONE should be able to enter and respond/reply/talk using microphone.... but the user(and every mod) who started it will have admins rights, that is, that user will be able to ban users from that session from either typing or speaking or both. i think 1 hour is enough since they can interact by speaking which is very fast means of communication unlike typing. so in one hour, generally, they can even discuss 10 easy/small questions or 5 difficult/long questions....quite enough. leaving the room = just closing the tab, as the session should start in new tab. The entire code of conduct is also valid for that session, so we need not mention specially about inappropriate languages and all....

OpenStudy (compassionate):

I like your idea, but there aren't many moderators that are online and can watch that specific chat, Harnn, which is why I feel Ambassadors should have a special jurisdiction in this, where, they can view these private sessions, and, in resemblance to a moderator, can help maintain the CoC in this. Ambassadors won't have moderator jurisdiction in these private sessions, as they cannot ban or warn members, but they can delete inappropriate content, and if needed, will report the issues.

OpenStudy (preetha):

Looks like you have enough to write a report. When you are done, can you summarize in a doc and mail it to me? (-: Pretty please.

OpenStudy (compassionate):

No problem, Preetha Ma'am! :-) Just working out some kinks here-and-there, looking for the most efficient outline. @hartnn and @Kfins99 , I'm more concerned as to how the chats could possibly be moderated, it sounds like a more detailed task, and shouldn't be mentioned in just a basic outline. Of course there will be some form of moderation - but I feel that can wait.

hartnn (hartnn):

The user who started the session will have the right to delete inappropriate contents(and all the admin rights) there. And other users(as ANYONE can enter) can always report contents against CoC. The moderation for such sessions can be exactly same as it is now for any question. The only difference that a mods approval is reqyired to start it. This way admins need not give special time to upgrade ambies special rights for basic version of this, but could be done when we think of upgrading these sessions. what ideas are floating around for a whiteboard/audio ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree with Hartnn about the chat moderation. Only subscribers should be able to use audio, but everyone should be able to chat. For whiteboard, there should be a pointer and everything we have decided on.

hartnn (hartnn):

why audio only for subscribers ? i want to help but can't use audio because i am not subscriber ? does not make sense.... anyone should be able to use audio, and the one who started the session will have right to ban any user from speaking (if that user is not speaking related to question) Different colors for pointers is cool, idk how easy/hard it is to incorporate. so when we start a session , a new tab should open with a white board as background, one chat thingy like the one present now in OS with the name same as that of the session. and list of all the users entering the session. and buttons to start audio. Equation and Attach File button can be imported to those session directly from here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

True, it wouldn't make sense, and to have someone being able to prevent them from audio would make it better. Also, there should be a way to contact the administrator of the room without interfering the chat with other room members. Idk, it just seems good.

hartnn (hartnn):

we can use OS personal message for that, remember that user will also be online on OS

mathslover (mathslover):

Sorry friends that I have not participated in the discussion yet because of some reasons. I am reading the whole conversation and will let you know about my ideas and thoughts!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree with @hartnn and @Kfins99 they basically said mostly what I would of so.. They both took my words right out of my mouth. xD

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Complete - @hartnn , @mathslover , @Kfins99 , @Skiller8860

mathslover (mathslover):

Well, I think the design is fine. Thanks compassionate for doing that and I will also like to thank @Kfins99 @Skiller8860 @hartnn @Compassionate - for attending the meeting . Hopefully, we will have another meeting with all the members and I will let you know the time of the meeting 1 day before.
