OpenStudy (221emily):

Can someone explain how to write a function rule Please.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[f(x) = x^2\] is a function rule for a parabola that opens upwards and has a double root at x = 0. is this what you mean?

OpenStudy (221emily):

um, IDK my questions have to do with ordered pairs, rate, and area.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what info are you given?

OpenStudy (221emily):

well it will give me ordered pairs and it says that they represent a function then it tells me to write a rule that represents a the function.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, what are the ordered pair?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did you try plotting them to get an idea of the shape of the graph?

OpenStudy (221emily):

no I didn't

OpenStudy (221emily):

they look like a line

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so use two of the points to get a slope and write the equation of the line in slope-intercept form. if all of the points are on the line then the slope-intercept form is the function rule: f(x) = mx+b

OpenStudy (221emily):

ok thanks!!!!!!!! :)

you're welcome!
