Any one know any tips for descriptive writing? I love writing but one of my many problems is not being descriptive any chance anyone can give me some tips?
Well it depends on what your writing. What are your writing that you need descriptive tips?
A story. I had a mentor but she couldnt help me anymore so we never reviewed the topic on descriptive writing.
oh ok well in descriptive writing you want to view your story from someone else's point of view. Like when you write a story you want to think "How will my readers like this?" Or "What could be added." You need to think about those things and find places where they could be added to. You also need to think about descriptions of people so that way you can see them in your mind eye like if you read a book.
Okay so for example instead of just saying that a girl had red hair, i should be more clear on how her hair is like and be clear on more of her psychical features than just her hair?
yea exactly. An example would be using that sentence, It girls hair looked like the red from a sunset. She was very thin and her face was of pure beauty. Nothing could compare to what she looked like. Or something along those lines.
Oh okay thanks (:
Any time :)
The primary purpose of descriptive writing is to describe a person, place or thing in such a way that a picture is formed in the reader's mind. Capturing an event through descriptive writing involves paying close attention to the details by using all of your five senses. Teaching students to write more descriptively will improve their writing by making it more interesting and engaging to read. Good descriptive writing includes many vivid sensory details that paint a picture and appeals to all of the reader's senses of sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste when appropriate. Descriptive writing may also paint pictures of the feelings the person, place or thing invokes in the writer. Good descriptive writing often makes use of figurative language such as analogies, similes and metaphors to help paint the picture in the reader's mind. Good descriptive writing uses precise language. General adjectives, nouns, and passive verbs do not have a place in good descriptive writing. Use specific adjectives and nouns and strong action verbs to give life to the picture you are painting in the reader's mind. Good descriptive writing is organized. Some ways to organize descriptive writing include: chronological (time), spatial (location), and order of importance. When describing a person, you might begin with a physical description, followed by how that person thinks, feels and acts.
