how long does it take for a particle to free fall depends on how high the particle is above the ground. here is a simplified version of a kinematic equation that does this. h = (1/2)gt^2 h is height (measured in meters or feet) g is gravity (either 9.8m/s^2 or 32.2ft/s^2) t is time (measured in seconds)
